Berlin, Ohio

Ms. Lewis and her friends, Mrs. Holzer, Kellie, and her mom, Mrs. Lewis, traveled west to Berlin, Ohio.  It was about a 2 hour drive.  Berlin is in the heart of Holmes County Amish Country.

It was a nice drive along the highways, with the leaves changing colors!  One neat landmark the girls & Stanley noticed was Tappan Lake.  The highway winds along the lake, which seems to go on forever.  It practically does -- it covers 2,350 acres!

The first stop was in Walnut Creek, right outside of Berlin, to the Walnut Creek Cheese shop.  Ms. Lewis was extremely excited to see the Amish horse & buggies parked outside of the store!  After buying Amish bread for our class's Thanksgiving feast, the ladies were off to Berlin!

Next, we stopped in a Christmas themed store called 'Tis the Season.  It is open year round and sells tons of Christmas decorations!  Santa was even there.  He was so excited to see Ms. Lewis with Flat Stanley!  He asked to take a picture together and even sent candy canes back to Team Lewis!  How cool?

Can you find Stanley??

The last stop was at Heini's Cheese Chalet.  At Heini's Cheese Chalet, you can watch them making cheese.  Unfortunately, they were not making cheese by the time we got there.  The Amish deliver the fresh milk early in the morning, and the workers get to making the cheese right away.  You get to sample the cheeses before you buy them!  There were so many delicious cheeses!

It was an enjoyable day trip!  We cannot wait to go back to see more Amish sights!  We are hoping to go on an Amish buggy ride in the spring!
